The Vanara are muscular, ape-headed humanoids with expressive and intelligent eyes. Their fur ranges in color from white with hints of blond or red to silvery gray. They once ruled Numenaria from their domed cities; their flying machines once hovered silently along the ley lines, and they subjugated the Elves and Halflings with their death rays and stun rods.
Today, Vanara live peacefully in Kyrishia with the races they enslaved during their relentless war with the Doom Weavers millenia ago. Because of their racial inclination toward machinery, the Vanara provide Kyrishia with some of its best artisans, sculptors, architects and engineers. Modern Kyrishian cities and fortresses, with their extensive use of domes, fountains and minarets built of white marble, are echos of Numenaria’s lost civilization because of Vanaran architects and builders.
The Vanara have worshiped no gods since long before they became “civilized,” and therefore cannot be clerics. Their long history of harnessing Numenaria’s magical energy through technology and devices also precludes them from being sorcerers, though their love of formulas and scholarship allows the more “superstitious” Vanara to become excellent wizards.
Vanara are valuable members of adventuring parties because of their natural toughness (even during their most decadent epoch, the Vanara never became soft) and their skill at disabling traps. A Vanaran adventurer will take very seriously the legends of thriving cities that survived the Cataclysms and preserved their ancient technology. He or she will face any horror and traverse the most dangerous wilderness in search of even the most desolate ruins that may survive from their heyday.
